A handsome Mechanics Institute of squared limestone in Italianate style. It has a porch and corner pilasters of stucco. Built in 1876/77 (although it had previously been listed as1884), with an extension to the left-hand side in 1895. Later used as the Nepean Historical Society's museum. Designed by A Rogers and built in 1892 by Fraser & Wilson, this small unpretentious building had a large billiard room added to the rear in 1903. The sides and rear are weather board with the attractive symetrical front elevation in simulated ashlar with round headed entrance door and windows.
